Uncharted 4 developers are pushing to give the ultimate video game experience at 60fps, but as new reports suggested, Naughty Dog will be more than willing to sacrifice that decision if it will compromise the whole game entirely.
Last June 2014, Naughty Dog's Eric Monacelli shared that they were aiming to do 60 fps for the 4th installment to showcase the next-gen PS4's capabilities. However, game director Bruce Straley dished on the possibility of scrapping the idea, and to just stick with the safe 30fps should their plan not pan out the way they wanted to.
"We're actually above 30, but we locked it [for the demo]," Straley said in the latest issue of EDGE.
"We're going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player's experience, then it's our choice as developers to say, 'Well, we're going to go for the experience [instead of] the 60 frames.'"
But fans should still be excited for the new release, as Uncharted 4 promises of notable improvements.
"With the verticality of Nathan Drake, with adding set pieces that weren't necessarily in this demo, how do you get a bigger flow, something that is deeper at an emotional level? All those things come together to make the Uncharted that we want to play," creative director Neil Druckmann told GameInformer.
"We have our vertical slice and we've found our flow and the voice of this game. To us the Uncharted combat works best when it has a flow to it, when you are not just behind cover, shooting over and ducking back down. When your cover is getting flanked and you have to jump and move down to another level."
