News surrounding the "Star Wars Episode 7" cast Peter Mayhew, who plays Chewbacca, is not good as the 70-year-old was hospitalized for pneumonia.
"The guy who's played Chewie since the '70s cancelled an appearance over the weekend at a comic shop in Texas ... and 'Star Wars' geeks went into panic mode when they heard he fell ill," the report from TMZ said.
However, his wife shared some good news on the status of "Star Wars Episode 7" cast Peter Mayhew as she wrote on Reddit: "He will make a full recovery, and hope to be discharged within a few days. Doctors are incredibly happy with his improvements."
The 7'3" English actor was a son of a policeman and was working at a hospital in the mid-70s when the casting call for "Star Wars" came.
According to the Peter Mayhew website, his casting as Chewbacca was serendipitous after David Prowse turned down the role.
"The decision to cast Mayhew as Chewbacca proved wise. The giant actor threw himself into the role with great determination. Shortly before filming began on Star Wars, Mayhew visited a zoo where he studied the movement of bears, monkeys, gorillas and other animals with traits reminiscent of a Wookiee," it said.
"Once inside the costume, Mayhew created one of the trilogy's most memorable and popular characters" said the website, adding that "he was known to growl, grunt and shriek" on the set.
This wasn't the first time that Chewbacca was hospitalized as a news report last year said that "Star Wars Episode 7" cast Peter Mayhew was confined to a wheelchair for two years before he regained his ability to walk following a double-knee replacement surgery.
The man who plays Chewbacca has been a constant patient at hospitals for his condition called gigantism which puts major strain on his knees and joints.
