Sometimes it can pay to be bad or at least pretend to be bad. Some actors do bad so well that viewers may prefer to see them play villains.
Bae Soo Bin currently plays a cruel chicken company CEO in "My Heart Twinkle Twinkle." He was charming in his comic role as Park Si Yeon's fellow newcaster in "The Greatest Marriage," but he is chillingly appealing as a villain. The actor has that "I will kill you with my eyes" glare down so well that his new character is feared and obeyed. He's played a variety of roles from superficial second lead in "49 Days" to an idealistic prosecutor who loses his moral compass in "Secret Love." But some say he looks best when he is bad.
Another actor who aces a variety of good-to-evil roles is Shin Sung Rok. He also played a charming second lead in "Trot Lovers," almost wooing Jung Eun Ji from Ji Hyun Woo. But he is scary-best when he plays evil. He played a man who murdered his own lover in "You Who Came From The Stars" and his character is the deranged but deadly host of the Liar Game in "The Liar Game." Shin Sung Rok is very talented at making his face look inhumanly like a mask.
Jung Woong In may be a very nice guy in real life but he was so bone-chillingly bad in "I Hear Your Voice" that he may face a future of villainous roles. The actor also played one of the men who tormented Ha Ji Won's character in the historical drama Empress Ki. He is so good at playing bad that it is very disconcerting to see him as a cast member on the variety show "Dad! Where Are We Going?"
And then there are the actors who get to play a bad guy and a good guy in the same drama. In "Kill Me, Heal Me," Ji Sung plays a man with seven distinct personalities. One of them is a dangerous character that falls immediately in love with Hwang Jung Eum's character. Although he is unpredictably violent, he's also the most dramatic and appealing of Ji Sung's "Kill Me, Heal Me" characters. And Ji Sung looks great in the guyliner that his bad personality likes to wear. Ji Sung is an actor who has played a sweet but anxious CEO in "Protect The Boss" and a bad CEO who develops a moral compass in "Secret Love" but in this particular drama his bad character is the most appealing.
Which actors do you think should stick to playing villains or at the very least play them more often? Let us know.
