Alejandro G. Iñárritu has been getting Academy Award nods with his 2010 film set in Mexico City, "Amores Perros."
Nominated for best foreign-language film, it paved the way for Iñárritu to gather 2015 Oscar nominations.
His latest film, "Birdman," earned nine nods from the Academy, including best actor, supporting actor, supporting actress, best director and best picture.
"Alfonso Cuarón was the one who called me on my cellphone," the Mexican helmer reportedly shared to the Los Angeles Times.
He added, "It was a good wake-up call from my friend. Then the text messages and stuff goes crazy. You can't possibly answer them. It's like a job in itself."
Meanwhile, Iñárritu's "Birdman" shares the distinction of having the most 2015 Oscar nominations with Wes Anderson's comedy "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Both films beat out "Boyhood" which was filmed for 12 years with the same cast and has been getting quite a bit of buzz for the Best Picture award.
Nominations for Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" include Best Picture and Best Director.
Despite "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" beating out "Boyhood" in the most number of nods, the Richard Linklater-helmed film is not shying away from fighting for the trophy. After all, "Boyhood" already won the Best Picture award at the 2015 Golden Globes.
Meanwhile, other films that were shown a lot of love by Academy include "The Imitation Game," "The Theory Of Everything," "Foxcatcher," "Whiplash" and "American Sniper."
"Nightcrawler," "Selma," "Into The Woods," "Gone Girl" and "The Judge" also received a handful of 2015 Oscar nominations. However, noticeably absent from any category is Chris Miller and Phil Lord's animated feature film, "The LEGO Movie."
The inventive adventure flick made use of LEGOs, featuring the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Farrell and Liam Neeson.
Who do you think will win Best Picture and Best Director? Will it be Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Wes Anderson or Richard Linklater?
