Warner Bros. has moved the release date of "Point Break" remake five months later.
From July 31, it can now be watched in theaters on Christmas Day. The announcement was made a week after Paramount moved the release date of "Mission: Impossible 5" from Dec. 25 to July 31, which means that Tom Cruise's new film could have gone head-to-head with Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez' upcoming movie if the producers didn't move it.
"Point Break" is a reboot of the 1991 surfing flick, which was made famous by Keanu Reeves who starred as Johnny Utah and Patrick Swayze who played the role of Bodhi. Bracey will be taking over the role of Reeves while Ramirez fills in the shoes of Swayze.
During an interview with Variety, the co-chairman of Alcon Entertainment tried to explain why they decided to make a switch.
"With Christmas on a Friday this year, the reality is that there's room for multiple movies." He added, "Our film is a really fun mainstream movie," Andrew Kosove.
Based on the schedule of Movie Insider, the reboot of "Point Break" will be going up against Leonardo DiCaprio's "The Revenant," Will Smith's "Concussion," Jennifer Lawrence's "Joy," Zac Efron's "Dirty Granpa," and the animated film "Monster Trucks."
Their biggest competitor in the box office is "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" which will be released a week earlier.
