Marvel has debunked the rumors that the Spider-Man in MCU is going to be Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker.
Previously, IGN reported that Jeff Sneider of the Wrap claimed that the Spider-Man in MCU is not going to be Caucasian and that the Spider-Man in MCU is going to be either Black or Latino.
"This is not set in stone guys, but I'm telling you right now, Spider-Man's not going to be white", said Jeff Sneider. "Spider-Man's not going to be white. I am 95% sure. Spider-Man's most likely going to be black. But there's a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure, not white."
It should be noted that Miles Morales is the only Spider-Man who is both Black and Hispanic.
The report also mentions that Jeff Sneider thinks that the reason why he thinks the new Spider-Man in MCU is going to be Black or Latino is due to Sony wanting to establish a major black superhero ahead of Marvel and DC.
"I really feel strongly. Sony has an opportunity to beat Marvel and DC to the punch with a major black comic book character. Like I mentioned last week, the emails that leaked were perceived as racist in some quarters. I really think that's going to play into things," said Jeff Sneider.
However, Marvel stated in their official website that their deal with Sony was to move Peter Parker's story into the future.
"Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future," wrote Marvel.
