Looks like a good news for gamers as Lionhead Studios' "Fable Legend" will be a free-to-play title for Xbox One and the Windows 10 platform.
Upcoming cooperative role-playing video game "Fable Legends" is developed by Lionhead Studios and published by Microsoft Studios for Windows Xbox One.
According to SMN Weekly, "Fable Legends" will be free-to-pay for both Xbox One and the Windows 10 platforms. The online RPG that features 4 Vs. 1 gameplay will comprise of rotating cast of Albion heroes. Stevivor noted that each of the heroes on offer at one time will coincide to each of the game's four classes. After a set of time when heroes will be rotated out, players will need to decide whether they would like to purchase the departing folk, either with real money or in-game currency.
SMN noted, "Fable Legends" features an assemblage of heroes that team up to stop a single villain and their swarm of monsters. Turtle Rock's recently released multiplayer-only shooter, reportedly follows the lead of other free-to-play games like "League of Legends," which also features a rotating choice of heroes and villains to choose from.
According to Lionhead Studios, the selections will rotate in and out every two weeks, and will offer players a chance to unlock a specific character. In order to do so, players can either spend in-game currency or real money. The system functions in a similar way for any player who decides to ruin the heroes' day, by taking on the role of the villain as well.
Alternatively, players can spend in-game cash or real money if they want to purchase additional types of minions that can be changed for the standard monsters available. In addition, in-game cash or real money can also be used to purchase chests filled with random assortment of equipment such as weapons, potions, items and armour.
Forbes noted that the Xbox One and PC exclusive game is extremely important for the tech giant, Microsoft who is trying to reclaim one of their only notable, remaining IPs, and a F2P structure is something rarely seen in the console space. Microsoft has tried it with F2P fighter Killer Instinct to mixed results, however Fable Legends is apparently following the example of a much more popular game, "Leagues of Legends."
In related news last month, it was revealed that "Fable Legends" will feature a cross-platform play between the Xbox One console and PCs running Windows 10. According to Stevivor, the game is not yet attached to a release date, but it's expected in 2015 alongside the launch of Windows 10.
