Harrison Ford is set to star in the much-anticipated sequel of the hit science fiction movie, "Blade Runner."

The movie is based on the 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick. According to Telegraph, Ford will reprise his role as the enigmatic bounty hunter Rick Deckard in a sequel to 1982 hit movie "Blade Runner."

A report by Variety reveals that the Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve is on the verge of replacing Ridley Scott, who reportedly will produce the sequel. Scott directed the original 1982 sci-fi film for Warner Bros. According to Entertainment Weekly, the film is set to start principal photography in summer 2016. Given Ford's age, the story will apparently take place several years after the conclusion of the original.

Hampton Fancher, who originally co-wrote the screenplay, has written the sequel with writer Michael Green of "The Green Lantern." Recently, Scott told MTV News that Ford was excited by the screenplay. Apparently, Ford was very impressed with the script and even claimed it was the best thing he has ever read.

Alcon Entertainment already announced Villeneuve's role, despite the fact that he is still in negotiation over the film.

In a joint statement, Alcon producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson expressed their excitement over Ford joining them in this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who according to them is a singular talent based on their personal experience on "Prisoners." In the statement, Kosove and Johnson said that Hampton and Green, with Scott, have created a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to "Blade Runner," one of the most celebrated films of all time.
