Hugh Jackman fans are in for a surprise as the "X-Men" star is slated to play a negative role in the upcoming sci-fi thriller.
Contrary to playing superheroes, Jackman is set to play the evil guy in the forthcoming sci-fi thriller, "Chappie," sporting a bad haircut and an unlikely attitude.
Daily Mail noted that Jackman has been travelling around the world recently to promote his new flick. Flying in from Europe, Jackman made his return to New York City after he spent time there performing his Broadway show, titled "The River," recently. The 46-year-old hunk donned a suave suit and tie at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square on Wednesday, March 4 for the world premiere of the forthcoming film.
Jackman, who has captivated movie audiences with numerous action flicks as the clawed superhero, Wolverine, takes us to the near future where the streets are patrolled by a brutal mechanized police force. The Intellegencer noted that in the film, an experimental robot Chappie who is designed to learn as well as feel, fights back against those who are planning to take him down.
The screenplay is based on director Neill Blomkamp's (The District) 2004 short film, "Tetra Vaal." The film also stars Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley and Sigourney Weaver who believes in the important message that "you can be whatever you want to be."
According to Weaver, the movie is for everyone and has an incredible story with a lot of heart. Weaver, who plays CEO of a weapon company, said that the film is an outlandish and funny story of a baby robot that is kidnapped by violent rappers who try to transform him though they are not aware that he wants to paint and write poetry.
Weaver, who also joined his co-star Jackman for the world premiere of "Chappie" at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square on Wednesday, looked stunning in a one piece ensemble. The "Alien" actress donned a monochrome jumpsuit held in with a golden belt, accessorized with a black and white chequered clutch.
"Chappie" marks Blomkamp's third feature length film as director. The film is set to be released in the U.S. on March 6 and an Australian release is scheduled on March 12.
