Jada Pinkett Smith is a no go for "Gotham" Season 2. The actress confirmed the news on "LIVE with Kelly and Michael" on ABC.
This is not the first time that the "True Colors" star has dropped hints about the possible departure of her character from the Bruno Heller-developed crime television series.
"Well, it's not quite over yet but we'll see if Fish survives the season," the "Nutty Professor" actress shared to reporters according to Comic Book. "It's a little tense from here on out, that's for sure. It's a little rough on Fish from here on out."
"I don't think so," she revealed to hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan when she was asked whether she was returning to the show. "I signed for a year and the year's up. BUT! There are some great things coming ahead on 'Gotham', believe you me."
According to Variety, the Fox show's producers have released a statement following Jada Pinkett-Smith's revelation.
"Fish Mooney's storyline takes a lot of interesting twists and turns into the finale of season one of 'Gotham.'" The network and studio declined to make any further comment on the issue of Jada Pinkett Smith not being on "Gotham" Season 2.
The "Matrix Reloaded" star talked about her experience as Fish Mooney, the mobster who served as the Penguin's mentor before Robin Lord Taylor's character betrayed her.
"I get to play a character who gets to do extreme things. She's evil - that's always fun," the 43-year-old actress shared. "I'm having a good time."
Show hosts Kelly and Michael were quite reluctant to accept the idea of Jada Pinkett Smith's apparent departure from "Gotham" Season 2. "You never know, Fish Mooney could show up anywhere!" Strahan insisted.
"She could show up anywhere, you never know," the Wicked Wisdom vocalist agreed.
"Gotham" is currently on a scheduled hiatus and will bounce back in April with a brand new episode.
