The historical drama "The Maids" has almost finished its run so it will soon be primed for marathoning. Viewers looking for a fast-paced historical drama may want to catch up on past episodes or add it to their next rainy day marathon list.

Here are five reasons why viewers may want to invest their time.

1. A star-crossed couple. In fact, there are two star-crossed couples and they both involve the character In Yub, played Jung Yu Mi. First she is engaged to her childhood love but a betrayal ends that engagement. When her family is accused of treason, she becomes a maid at the household of her romantic rival. Then she falls for a man who may be royalty but is also a traitor. They have both fallen from grace and are both traitors. Or are they? Their ultimate fate might be quite different.

2. Really bad female villains. In Yub's former friend Heo Yoon Ok, played by Lee Shi A, and her mom, played by Jeon Mi Sun, are the kind of characters you love to hate. Both actresses do a great job of being cold-hearted and hiss-worthy.

3. A feisty, tough female lead. In Yub starts out being a spoiled rich girl but through adversity she becomes a better and more compassionate person. She has to serve her ex and his new wife and she does so with grace. She becomes braver and stronger as the drama progresses.

4. Jung Yu Mi. Some viewers found it hard to relate to Jung Yu Mi as an actress after she played the dual roles of Park Yoochun's wife and the evil cousin in "Rooftop Prince." She did such a good job of being bad, the role stayed with her. But in this drama, she does a good job of being a good character.

5. A lot of "Downton Abbey" and "Upstairs Downstairs" scenarios. The politics and hypocrisy of the wealthy families in this drama is reflected in the lives of the maids and other staff who serve them. Although servants in the Joseon era had few rights, their actions could and did affect the lives of the noble men and men they served. And kings and ministers could be brought low by the actions of their servants, some of whom once had noble origins.

The drama also stars Oh Ji Ho, Kim Dong Wook, Jeon So Min, Joen No Min and Kim Kap Soo.
