Channing Tatum is being eyed to be the possible star of a brand new "Ghostbusters" flick. It is said to follow the all-female reboot of the classic 80s hit.
Sony Pictures is reportedly broadening the comic fantasy franchise with the aid of Ghost Corps. It is a production company where original star Dan Aykroyd and director Ivan Reitman are part of.
"We want to expand the 'Ghostbusters' universe," Reitman relayed, as reported by BBC.
The film is hoped to start shooting next year and be released by 2017.
"It's just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies," Reitman continued.
The ghost-busting franchise had been lying dormant for quite a few years but is finally getting back on track. That is all thanks to the first new "Ghostbusters" film starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.
Comediennes from "Saturday Night Live" Kate McKinnon and Lesle Jones will also be joining the pair in the reboot. It is reported to start filming in June and will hit theatres in July 2016.
The sequel's director, Paul Feig, has "got four of the funniest women in the world and there will be other surprises to come," according to Reitman.
The new film that they are planning, he went on, "has a wonderful idea that builds on that."
The writer of "Iron Man 3" as well as the fifth upcoming "Mission: Impossible" film, Drew Pearce ahs been tapped to work on the film. Anthony and Joe Russo, the pair of brothers responsible for the second and third installations of "Captain America" films are being asked to helm.
"The hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers' next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year," added Reitman.
Because the "21 Jump Street" star's production company "Free Association" is involved in the planning, there is speculation that Channing Tatum may be in the line-up to star in the latest "Ghostbusters" movie.
