Twitter is fed up with bad behavior on its site as it takes a huge step to ban explicit content taken without the person's permission.

Social networking giant, Twitter has changed its policies in order to ban the posting of sexually explicit media shared online without the consent of the pictured individual.

VentureBeat noted that the social network giant said last month that it's really annoyed with the negative tones and bad behavior on Twitter. In order to change things, Twitter is taking another step this month.

On Wednesday, March 11, Twitter introduced new language on its Twitter Rules page to ban posting of revenge porn and stolen nude images. In addition, the rules against graphic content states users are prohibited from using pornographic or excessively violent media in their profile image, header image, or background image.

BBC notes, posting revenge porn images became a criminal offence in England and Wales last month.

A spokesperson for the social networking giant stated users found to have broken the new rule will have their accounts locked. Twitter will need users complaining about photos or videos posted to verify their identity and prove they did not give consent for it to be shared publicly. User found to have posted explicit content against the new rule, would then be required to delete the material in question in order to be able to return to the platform, BBC noted.

The changes come in the wake of rising pressure to combat harassment on its site, specifically against women. Twitter rolled out new tools to facilitate reporting abuse late last year; this was further improved for mobile devices last month.

Reddit too installed a ban on stolen nude photos and revenge porn on its site recently.

The company's spokesperson added such content can be reported via Twitter's existing tools for flagging abusive content.
