It looks like a new cast member for Corin Hardy's reboot of "The Crow" movie has been revealed along with the film's plot details.
According to Screenrant, "Boardwalk Empire" star Jack Huston has been cast to play Eric Draven in "The Crow" movie reboot after "The Hobbit" actor Luke Evans left the production due to his busy schedule and the movie's production delays. Although the website cited that "The Crow" creator James O'Barr has also targeted "Being Human" star Sam Witwer for the role.
According to Dread Central, O'Barr explaned Huston's participation in "The Crow" reboot during the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention in March 13 to 15 in Lexington, Kentucky as O'Barr playfully teased Dread Central reporter Jason “Jinx” Jenkins.
“Jack Huston has definitely been cast,” O'Barr said to Dread Central as he further stated that he was “really happy with that choice," and they “will shoot in a couple of months.”
However, Screenrant pointed out that Huston casting as the Eric Draven in "The Crow" reboot has not yet been finalized as no word from Huston's camp or that of Relativity Studios regarding his presents in the film's production.
It is worth noting that several actors aside from Evans have been targeted for the role of Draven in "The Crow" reboot such as "Thor" and "Avengers" star Tom Hiddleston, and "X-Men: Days of Future Past"star James McAvoy.
Meanwhile, Dread Central has reported that "The Crow" reboot's plot details will based on O'Barrs' original comic book series "The Crow" in 1989.
The original comic book plot centers on Eric's quest for revenge after a gang of street thugs assaulted him and his fiancee Shelly when they are stranded in the middle of nowhere. Eric was shot in the head and became paralyzed while Shelly was brutally beaten and violated to death.
He was soon left for dead in the road, and as he died, a crow appeared and resurrects him. Fueled by the sadness and loss, as well as anger and rage, he sets out to hunt down his killers.
In the comics and in the films, the crow acts as a guide to Eric and gives him extraordinary powers, but as a side effect if anything happens to the crow, he will be vulnerable to any attack.
The Inquistr has also reported that Evans made a comment about the film's plot before he left the production.
“We just want to be as authentic and loyal to the original comic as possible, and that means the story will be different. It’ll be different from what people are expecting… And that’s exciting because we’re bringing to the screen a lot of parts of the story that were never really told,” Evan's said.
Corin has also supported Evan's comments on the film's plot in hopes of distinguishing it from other superhero movies from both Marvel and DC.
"I also want to open the story up in such a way that ‘The Crow’ is now part of a world where there are the Marvel movies and the ‘Dark Knight’ movies," Corin said. "I intend it to be incredibly emotional and brutal, and all the things you’d want from a Crow film. I want to make a movie that I would have wanted to see, as a huge fan of ‘The Crow.’ “
The first "Crow" movie was shown in 1994 by diretor Alex Proyas and stars Brandon Lee as the title charcter just before he got killed by prop gun accident during the film's taping.
"The Crow film has spawned several sequels; "The Crow: City of Angels", "The Crow: Salvation", and "The Crow: Wicked Prayer."
