Melissa Benoist is getting ready to play Kara Zor-El, also known as the cousin of Superman and the heroine from DC Comics. Now new "Supergirl" casting rumors point to two new members of the television series' growing cast.
The 26-year-old actress is best known for her role as Marley Rose on "Glee," and for starring in the Academy-Award winning drama "Whiplash."
The much-awaited TV series adaptation of the super heroine is in the process of filming its pilot episode. According to a report by Gist, the show will be similarly following the trend of the DC Comicbook Universe of "The Flash" and "Arrow."
The new upcoming CBS show will be written and produced by executive producers Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Andrew Kreisberg.
"Supergirl" will be about the teenage girl's struggle as she tries to balance living in her new adopted home on Earth while trying to keep her powers on the down low, and "her awakening call to embrace her destiny as a hero."
New "Supergirl" casting rumors have also revealed that Helen Slater and Dean Cain would be part of the show. Dean was once Superman in "Lois and Clark: The Adventures of Superman," the TV series that came out in the '90s while Slater took on the role of "Supergirl" in the 1984 movie of the same name.
According to Nerd Reactor, the rumors claimed that these two former super heroes will be playing the role of Supergirl's parents in the CBS show.
The names of these two actors are now listed as Supergirl's adoptive parents Fred and Sylvia Danvers, on the official IMDB page.
The "Supergirl" casting rumor is not so far-off considering that Berlanti has also casted John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen's father. Shipp was once "The Flash" in the short run 90s TV series adaptation of the superhero.
"Supergirl" is said to kick off in the fall season of CBS.
