Warning: Recap for "Better Call Saul" season 1, episode 6 contains major spoilers for "Five-O."
The most recent episode centered on Mike's backstory. It opened with Mike nursing a gunshot wound on his shoulder then viewers saw him pushing his granddaughter Kaylie on the swings and had a conversation with Stacey, his daughter in law.
They talked about Matt who was a Philadelphia police officer but got shot at the job. Stacey revealed that during Matt's last few weeks she overheard him arguing with someone over the phone. Mike told her not to worry about anything and he left, took a cab and asked to be brought to a low-key medical facility. He was brought to a veterinarian who stitched his wound up.
Back in the present day, Mike was in police custody with Saul. They talked privately and Mike told Saul to spill coffee on one of the police officers. At first, Saul was hesitant. The reason Mike was there was because three months after Matt's death, the two police officers who were with him were both killed and the only lead that they have was that someone saw Mike with the two cops at a bar during the night of their deaths.
Mike said that after his son died he became a drunkard, which means that he couldn't possibly murder anyone. Before they left, Saul spilled his coffee on one of the police officers and Mike helped to wipe it off while he took the cop's notebook.
Mike found in the notebook that it was Stacey who led the cops to him so he went to Stacey to confront her. Stacey revealed that one of their mattresses was lined with money. Mike defended his son and told her that his son didn't steal anything and he wasn't dirty. Then he admitted that he was the one Matt was talking to over the phone that she overheard.
Another flashback: Just before he went inside a bar in Philadelphia he opened a police car with the use of string to plant something at the back. Mike got drunk that night and saw the two police officers in the bar, he walked up to them and told them that he knows it was them. When he was walking home, the two cops offered him a ride home and put him in the back seat.
On the way, one of the cops asked what he meant earlier and Mike said that he knows he was the one who killed his son and he's going to prove it. The cops pulled over about to kill Mike and make it look like suicide but Mike was ready with a gun and shot both of them. However, he was shot at the shoulder, which explains his gunshot wound during the first part of this episode.
It turns out that Matt asked his father for advice. He was a good cop and when some of his friends at the station took drug money he plans to rat him out but Mike advised him not to and just get a part of the money so he wouldn't be a target. However, his son was still killed by the two police officers.
"I broke my boy," Mike said.
