FOX has just picked up a new crime drama series, "Houdini and Doyle," and it's not just a pilot order but this one is going straight to a 10-episode series.
This show features a supernatural theme and can be the next big thing that Fox has to offer, at least based on the early optimism by the producers and executives of teh network.
"Houdini and Doyle" is coming on TV! The basis of this TV series is actually the real-life friendship of the creator of "Sherlock Holmes" Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with Harry Houdini, an illusionist. They hit it off right away as they shared a belief in spiritualism.
There's a bit of difference, however, as Harry Houdini didn't believe in everything spiritual and he detested mediums while Sir Arthur Conan Doyle believed in them.
As per Deadline, "In 'Houdini and Doyle,' two of the great characters of the 20th century - Houdini, master magician, escape artist and paranormal debunker, and Doyle, creator of the world's greatest detective and a paranormal aficionado - grudgingly join forces to investigate crimes with a supernatural slant. Although they're both rich, famous and brilliant, they're the original odd couple, with Houdini believing in nothing, Doyle in everything."
The show will have 10 episodes for its first season and it has been picked up by ITV and by Shaw Media in Canada. It hails from David Titcher ("The Librarian"), David Shore ("House") and David Hoselton ("House"). Hoselton will be the show's showrunner.
"Houdini and Doyle" opens its own niche in the supernatural category of the network along with "Sleepy Hollow." The fact that it has been ordered straight to series only means one thing: this one is a good show and a promising one that the network truly believes in. And by its description, it is definitely something to watch out for.
