The following recap for "The Mindy Project" season 3 finale, episode 21, titled "Best Man" contains spoilers.
The episode kicked off with Peter asking Mindy to be his best man since his old best man messed up a bit during the bachelor party. Mindy agreed and Peter said that she has to learn the best man dance, too. Morgan was quite upset to learn about this because he was actually expecting that Peter would ask him to be his best man.
Aside from the wedding, Mindy's parents are flying off to India for a year and there's a going-away party in Boston. Mindy told Danny about this and Danny agreed but said that he might arrive late because he has a procedure that day.
On the day of the going-away party, Danny's procedure took longer than expected so Mindy suggested that he come that night instead. Danny suggested that he meets them another time. Mindy said fine although she was really disappointed.
Meanwhile, Peter recommended a new doctor to Mindy because he's really far away and can't deliver her child. Danny interrupted their Skype conversation and apologized for missing out on the party and told Mindy that he would just send her parents flowers but Mindy said no because flowers are a sign of death in India.
Danny left the room and Mindy and Peter went on with their conversation, Peter asked what the big lie was about. It turns out that Mindy didn't tell her parents that the baby's father is Danny - she just told them that the father is gone.
Morgan heard their conversation and of course, he took action. Before that, Dr. Ludmilla Trapezikov, Mindy's new doctor, was very harsh with Mindy and told her that she had preeclampsia, which meant that she couldn't fly off to Texas for Peter's wedding. She told Peter about this and Morgan thought Peter would ask him but then Peter and his original best man was able to work things out.
Mindy then got treated to a baby shower and Danny's mom was there. They put her parents via Skype and she freaked out because they don't know about Danny. Morgan saved the day by enlisting some of Mindy's exes.
Danny confronted Mindy about this and she explained her reason. Danny didn't get mad and only said that if he only knew that the going-away party was Mindy's chance to tell her parents about him, he would have been there. Danny then revealed that he really didn't go because he was afraid that her parents might ask why they aren't married.
Then marriage came into the issue with Mindy saying that he was all up for it when he found out that she's pregnant, but Danny said that he did that because he thought it was the right thing to do and was relieved when he said no.
Annette and Danny talked about marriage wherein Annette convinced his son that not all marriages fail. That didn't seem to change Danny's viewpoint on marriage.
It was the day of Peter's wedding and Danny flew to Texas while Mindy got left behind in NYC because she wasn't allowed to get on a plane. During the wedding, Mindy chatted with Morgan who revealed that Danny wasn't there. It turned out that Danny was in India and was at the doorstep of Mindy's parent's house and told them, "Hi, I'm Danny Castellano, and I'm in love with your daughter," and then the credits roll.
