Showtime had just ordered a 12-episode series of high-finance drama "Billions" with casts Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti which would premiere on 2016.
According to Variety, the "Billions" series will focus on the politics and power of the Wall Street and New York investment firms.
Below's the full synopsis of Showtime's "Billions" to premiere in 2016:
"'Billions' is a fictional drama that takes an insider look at the world of high finance by tracking the approaching collision between two titanic figures - the hard charging, politically savvy U.S Attorney Chuck Rhoader (Giamatti) and the brilliant, ambitious hedge fund king, Bobby 'Axe' Axelrod (Lewis). Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman, Toby Leonard Moore, David Costabile and Conodola Rashad also star."
Two years after Lewis' dramatic exit from "Homeland" the actor is back to Showtime with "Billions." It was said that the new series would add to the busy slate programming of the network in 2016, which includes the revival of "Twin Peaks."
Showtime president David Nevins said the network has high expectations of the show, especially with the "dynamic pairing" of Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis. Nevins added that viewers can expect that an "equally exciting" writing staff will handle the show.
“Andrew Ross Sorkin, one of the preeminent financial journalists of our time, has joined forces with Brian Koppelman and David Levien, two of Hollywood’s most accomplished screenwriters, to tackle an incredibly timely and buzzy subject,” Nevins revealed.
“With this caliber of writing and acting, I think the show’s authenticity and insider look will have great appeal to a discerning audience," he said.
The pilot of the show will be directed by Neil Burger ("Divergent"). "Billions" first season will consist of 12 episodes.
"Billions" is slated to premiere in Showtime in 2016 while its production will start late this year and according to the network it will be set in New York.
