Several rumors have been circulating online that Apple is ready to launch its first car, "Project Titan," by 2020. Within five years, the tech giant will be ready to go forward with its first electric self-driving car.
According to Business Insider, various sources have reported that Apple is working on a self-driving car codenamed "Project Titan." Loom and Mill has recently released a video, which supposedly shows a prototype. The video shows a van similar to what was seen driving around San Francisco last February. The aforementioned vehicle was traced back to Apple through its registration.
Some say that the cameras on top of the van are used to further improve Apple's Maps application, similar to how Google maps streets for Google Maps. According to reports from The Wall Street Journal however, the design of Apple's self-driving car is designed to resemble a minivan.
Business Insider has also asked ten car company executives about their thoughts on Apple's self-driving electric car, called "Project Titan."
"I take it seriously. Even if it doesn't manifest itself in reality, I think we'd be naive not to. ... At this disruptive time, I think the industry needs to be fully engaged," said Audi President Scott Keogh.
"We take competition very seriously we also look at the latest trends and try to get out ahead of upcoming trends to figure out what the consumers are looking for," said BMW President and CEO Ludwig Willisch.
The consensus about the project is generally positive, with the executives wishing the company behind the famous iProducts luck and claiming that they are excited for the project. However, they cannot help but express that they do have some doubts about the project.
"You're probably more informed about that than I am," said Ford CEO Mark Fields.
TechnoBuffalo has reported that Apple's self-driving car is electric and that it will rival Tesla's vehicles. AppleInsider has also reported that Apple had been hijacking employees from Tesla since last fall.
Reports from CNN Money stated that electric car battery maker A123 Systems has filed a lawsuit against Apple, because the technology megacorporation has poached so many of its employees. Further reports also stated that the project is based in Sunnyvale, California. This means that it is just a few blocks away from the Apple's main headquarters, which is in Cupertino, California.
