'General Hospital' Spoilers: Producers Tease 'Anything Can Happen' In Series Live Airing In May To Celebrate 52nd Anniversary

Viewers may think that ABC's daytime series "General Hospital," which has been airing since April 1, 1963, has no more tricks up its sleeve but its most recent spoiler announcement has caused quite a stir among its viewers.

For the 52nd anniversary of "General Hospital," spoilers revealed that there will be two live broadcasts of the show in May 2015. The live episodes are set to air on May 15 and 18, and are parts of the shows anniversary special, which has so far featured the current season's cast recreating classic scenes from the acclaimed medical drama.

Frank Valentini, the show's producer and head writer, is no stranger to live broadcasts. Back in 2002, the ABC show "One Life" had a week's worth of live episodes during his tenure as the show's producer.

"Taking such an iconic show as 'General Hospital' live for two days is both exhilarating and risky," he said in an interview with People.

He also stated that he is proud of his cast and crew for their dedication to the show and that because the episodes are going to be live, "anything can happen."

In the 42nd Daytime Emmy Awards, "General Hospital" led the nominations with a total of 28. General Hospital was nominated for Best Drama Series. Maura West and Laura Wright were both nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. Nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series were given to Anthony Geary and Jason Thompson. Finola Hughes and Lisa Locicero were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and Chad Duell was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

According to Inquistr, although "General Hospital" doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it tries its best to keep up with modern times. Hence, the live episode broadcasts.

"General Hospital" airs on ABC.
