Will The 2016 Cadillac CT6 Help GM's Luxury Car Division Reclaim Its Upscale Position? Check Out What May Hamper Its Chances!

The new Cadillac CT6 is definitely impressive but it looks like it alone may not be able to revive the renowned automaker's position at the top.

Cadillac Motor Car Division is GM's luxury car arm that markets luxury vehicles worldwide and its primary markets are the United States, Canada and China.

Although the good times have reappeared as far as the U.S. automobile market is concerned, according to Cadillac's new top rated executive, Johan de Nysschen, and other Cadillac leaders interviewed at the 2015 New York International Auto Show and at the 58th International Motor Show in Geneva, it does not fit the highly advantageous, elite definition of automotive luxury.

According to PostPioneer, this time the trouble is not automobile excellence.

Cadillac is actually producing some of the very best cars in its history, symbolized by models such as the full-size XTS sedan, the sporty CTS-V and the compact ATS. Sales of the Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac's large sport-utility vehicle, are up almost 75 percent this year.

However, Cadillac automobiles redesigned to challenge rivals such as BMW 3 and five series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and higher-end Lexus models, have withered against the competitors.

Nevertheless, with its latest release CT6 luxury sedan, Cadillac has done excellently. But, it alone would probably find it tough to cure Cadillac's issues, TheWestsideStory noted.

Although there's a lot to be said for both the appeal of the new 2016 Cadillac CT6 and what it isn't technically -- and this could hamper the chances of pulling the automaker out of fire.

Not An SUV

Cadillac seems to be totally ignoring the critical market shift that's been advancing for some time. As of now, global auto-buyers have their eyes on SUVs, however, Cadillac is reportedly taking no notice of the obvious and remains planted to the bench.

According to ModernReaders, Cadillac, on the contrary should be setting the standard other SUV makers strive to match rather than standing idly by and doing absolutely nothing.

It's no secret that this is, indeed, where most consumer demand lies with hundreds of new SUVs and crossovers of all shapes and sizes making waves with any number of badges. Cadillac, on the other hand, has stuck with the SRX and the Escalade. Moreover, despite its sex appeal and selling points, the Escalade is not the type of auto that is ever going to be popular outside the U.S.

Michelle Krebs, senior analyst at Autotrader, noted that Cadillac lacks boom in the SUV space, except for Escalade. Krebs further pointed out at how many SUVs brands such as Mercedes, Audi and BMW have.

Even if the new 2016 CT6 manages to outshine the competitors like the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-series, these are still the kind of autos that sell in comparatively small numbers. Basically, it's a worthy entry; however it's likely not the one to take Cadillac where it should really be heading right now.
