"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" movie sequel could move forward without David Fincher. When sources last heard from the award-winning, he said that he still plans to direct the sequels based on Stieg Larsson's best sellers.

There has been much speculation about the "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" movie sequel, "The Girl Who Played With Fire," since its production has been in a standstill for quite some time. This has not only infuriated fans, but also the movie's cast. Sony has revealed plans to continue with the sequels' production, but it has been reported that there will be a considerable amount of changes.

The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the fourth book in the series, "The Girl in the Spider's Web" has changed Sony's plans for the sequels. Contrary to the popular trend of taking the final book in a series and splitting it into two films, the opposite may take effect in this case.

Sony plans to make a trilogy of films on the series, with the second film reported to be a combination of "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest." The trilogy of films will be closed with a big screen adaptation of "The Girl in the Spider's Web."

Daniel Craig's involvement is also in question since Sony reportedly wants to cut him from the films in order to save on the film's budget. Craig plays the journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the first installment of the Millennium series.

Meanwhile, Rooney Mara is also on edge about the films and hopes that Sony produces "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" sequel much sooner than later, since she claims that she "is not getting any younger."

“I hope that they make the second one. I’m just not sure when they’re going to. I mean, I hope they make it soon because I’m not getting any younger. The second one is very physical, so hopefully they’ll be making it sooner rather than later," she said, via Screenrant.
