In a recent interview, "Castle" star Stana Katic dicussed the probability of the ABC show being cancelled or renewed for season 8. It was said that she, together with co-star Nathan Fillion were still in negotiations on whether they would renew their contracts, leaving the show's fate hanging on the balance.

In an interview with TV Line, Stana Katic who plays Detective Kate Beckett stated that she is happy and proud of what "Castle" has accomplished, regardless of whether it will be renewed or cancelled for season 8.

When asked why Katic would even consider ending "Castle" with season 8, she said that she just doesn't want the show to "overstay its welcome."

"If the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it’s better to stop when you’re on top."

She said that she admires what the show "The Wire" did, where they told a great story then moved on to something else. She hopes "Castle" will end the same way, while the show is "on top."

"For me it’s about art over finance, and as long as we’re creating something that is compelling and that has somewhere to go, then we’re good to go."

She added, "And when we find that we’re not, when we don’t have anywhere else to go, then it’s time for everyone to pack up and move onto the next thing. But I don’t know where it’s going to end."

She also stated in the interview that if there is no more character development available, then it either spells the end for the character in question or the series as a whole.

It has been widely speculated that since Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett got married and are set to start a new life together, "Castle's" producers are ready to wrap the show up.

The producers of "Castle" have released a statement, via TV Guide, about the probability of having a season 8. It delved on the issue of the series' cancellation or renewal, and whether Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion will renew their contracts.

"We're hopeful that everything gets resolved. In the meantime, we're just building the best end of the season that we can."

"Obviously, we've thought about a bunch of different scenarios, but our main obligation is to our audience and to deliver great shows. That's what we'll be trying to do, and we think we have a bunch of them lined up all the way to the end."
