Square Enix has released a new RPG called "Masters of the Masks" on iOS and Android.

Square Enix, a Japanese video game developer that is best known for its role-playing video game franchises like "Dragon Quest" and "Final Fantasy," released a new RPG called "Masters of the Masks" for mobile devices on April 16. The release was rather random and was done without a hint or warning.

"Masters of the Masks" is a free-to-play role-playing game developed by Lastmoon Games.

Being billed as a "drag-and-drop" RPG, it simply uses gestures instead of menus in order to navigate its turn-based battles, according to TouchArcade.

The RPG sports a rather different style as compared to a typical Square Enix title. Generally, their releases feature retro-style graphics, 3D re-mastered visuals or just 3D rendering. According to reports on DroidGamers, the new RPG sports a hand-drawn cell-shaded look to it with a bit of a comic flare.

The storyline

In the territory of Ivren, the gods give sacred Masks to the peoples of the land. A group of selected warriors plunge into a chilling quest rid Ivren of a mysterious evil rising in the east.

The current mask they are wearing reportedly determines a player's spell and skills. To get new or stronger abilities, players can find or craft new masks to adorn their party members with.

According to DigitalSpy, several updates are planned for the game, including an update that will enable players to challenge others, to tests of strength in battles that will enhance their skills.

Moreover, Square Enix's long-term plans for "Masters of the Masks" that include PvP events, as well as a social system for engaging friends to help you with your battles, are already in place.

"Masters of the Masks" is now available on Android devices and iOS for free with in-app purchases.
