On April 17, CJ E&M announced the dates and new location for one of the largest Korean culture events in North America, KCON 2015 USA. KCON 2015 USA will be held from Friday, July 31 through Sunday, August 2. In addition to expanding beyond a two-day event, KCON 2015 USA is moving from the Los Angeles Sports Memorial Arena to the Staples Center.
KCON was first held in 2012. The inaugural event was held at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre in Irvine, California. The lineup for the first year included EXO-M, BAP, VIXX, G.NA and 4 Minute. 10,000 Hallyu fans attended KCON in 2012.
In 2013, the event doubled in attendance. EXO-K and EXO-M performed at KCON 2013 along with G-Dragon, Crayon Pop, Dynamic Duo, f(x), 2AM and Teen Top. Super Junior-M's Henry also provided a special performance.
KCON 2014 was one of the biggest events for Korean entertainment to be held in the United States. More than 42,000 fans attended the event in 2014. The star-studded lineup included G-Dragon, Girls' Generation, BTS, VIXX, B1A4, CNBLUE and IU.
In 2015, KCON also expanded to Japan. On April 22, KCON Japan will be held at the Saitama Super Arena and will feature some of the best in Hallyu entertainment including INFINITE, GOT7, SISTAR and Block B.
KCON provides dynamic programming in addition to the featured K-pop artists. KCON 2014 included panels which featured Korean culture education, celebrity guests and educational programs for fans to organize within their communities.
