Emma is determined to reunite Lily with her mother, Maleficent, according to the spoilers for episode 20, season 4 of "Once Upon a Time."
But based on the history of the ABC hit series, things are not going to go according to her plan.
The last episode "Sympathy for the De Vil" was the darkest that the series has gotten since Regina massacred an entire village.
The episode started innocently enough with the young Cruella locked up in a room by her mother ala Rapunzel. Her mother's three ex-husbands have died mysterious deaths and Cruella told the author that her mother killed them.
After getting her power from the author, she ordered dogs to kill her mother before skinning them for her fur coat.
"She's not a fragile bird being kept in a gilded cage by a sadistic mistress; she's actually a born sociopath being kept prisoner by a desperate woman who knows that the world is a safer place without Cruella in it," Entertainment Weekly noted of Cruella De Vil.
After the author found out the truth, he wrote a new rule for Cruella De Vil, that she would never take another life ever again.
Emma also showed her dark side when Cruella held Henry hostage. Instead of showing sympathy for De Vil, Emma pushed her toward a ravine to her death.
Episode 20 spoilers for "Once Upon a Time" season 4 are teased in the synopsis which reads, "Emma and Regina join forces to travel to New York City and both find Lily and rescue Robin. However,. things go terribly wrong. In the past, a young Emma has a chance at a happy life with a new family until Lily reenters the picture."
