'Sirens' Series Cancelled After Season 2 For Low Ratings; 'Playing House' Renewed

USA Network has cancelled its medical comedy "Sirens" after only two seasons. Although the series has earned quite a following, the number is apparently not enough for the network to renew it for season 3.

"Sirens" is the first original comedy that was released by the USA Network after getting the rights to release reruns of "Modern Family." The series stars Michael Mosley, Kevin Daniels, Kevin Bigley and Jessica McNamee. It had a total of 23 episodes over the course of its two seasons.

In an interview with Just Jared, Kevin Bigley, who plays Brian on the show, revealed that had the series been renewed he would have wanted to have Colin Ferrell as a guest star.

"I am beginning a campaign for a 'pay phone centered' story line. Brian gets kidnapped. It’s a shot for shot remake of that terrible/wonderdful Colin Farrell movie Phone Booth. Get ready for a mediocre thrill ride, Sirens fans!" he joked.

USA Network will reportedly continue to pursue releasing its own original comedy shows as they plan to release the semi-scripted comedy show "Donny!" some time in the near future.

"Donny!" has been given the green light for six episodes.

Despite the cancellation of "Sirens," USA Network will also continue to pursue production of "Playing House."

According to Deadline, which was first to report on "Siren's" cancellation, the unique show that comes out on video on demand platforms first, has enjoyed critical acclaim and has even garnered a small following. This has allowed "Playing House" to get renewed for a second season.

An article posted on Screen Rant states that USA Network is "ignorant" for cancelling "Sirens" and that either Netflix or FXX should save the show.

The website claims that "Sirens" is one of the best comedy to grace broadcast and cable TV. As the show is owned by Fox 21 Studios, unlike "Donny!" and "Playing House," which are both owned by the USA Network, there is a greater chance for either Netflix or FXX to save "Sirens."
