After a long hiatus, "Stalker" returned to CBS this week for season 1 episode 19. Several reports claimed that the much-awaited episode had an increase of 17% in viewership, which caused many fans to hope that the series would not be cancelled.
According to HitFlix, "Stalker" season 1, episode 19 called "Love Hurts," was able to pull an average of 6.04 million viewers beating FOX's "The Following." Some, however, speculated that the numbers are not enough to save the series from being axed.
"Stalker" is a procedural series that follows the LAPD's Threat Assessment Unit that investigates victims of stalking. It stars Maggie Q (Lt Beth Davis), Dylan McDermott (Jack Larsen), Mariana Klaveno (Janice Lawrence), Elizabeth Rohm (Amanda Taylor) and Victor Rasuk (Ben Caldwell).
Business Insider listed "Stalker" as one of the "15 TV shows that will most likely be canceled in the next few weeks."
"The gory stalker thriller hasn't become an obsession with viewers. It's also never a good sign when a network pulls a show off the schedule to make room for another series. It returned on a new night on Monday and was able to pick up more viewers. But, it's probably too late to save itself," it said.
Despite receiving several criticism, "Stalker" series creator Kevin Williamson remained hopeful that a season 2 will happen. Speaking to TV Line, Williamson said that he, together with the writers, are busy coming up with plotlines on what will happen in case there will be a second season.
"I have to have hope, right? You can't get out of bed if you don't have a little hope," he said.
"Anything's possible. I'm not a guy who just sits around and waits to hear. You're sitting in a room with a bunch of writers all year, and we've been laying the groundwork for season two."
