There is a special type of acting in the SBS drama "Yawang" called "feet acting."
Usually, when people call somebody's acting "feet acting", they mean that the actor's acting is horrible. However, in the case of the drama "Yawang", the feet in "feet-acting" is very literal.
The SBS drama "Yawang" drew attention for the countless pairs of shoes they show on screen. The drama features the characters' anger, sadness and other emotions, not to mentions their footsteps.
To be specific, the 16th episode had the most "feet acting" scenes. After Ha Ryoo (Kwon Sang Woo) gets beaten up, his depressing footsteps expressed his anger and disappointment while he was walking towards Joo Da Hae (Soo Ae). The camera closes up on Kwon Sang Woo's feet, that are slowly but quickly walking towards Joo Da Hae.
Also, when Baek Do Hoon (Jung Yoon Ho) is infuriated about the relationship between Ha Ryoo and Joo Da Hae, his strong and steady footsteps express his emotions quite well. Through this unique type of focus, viewers are given a totally different way to understand the emotions of the characters. It seems as though not only our faces, but our arms, legs, and feet have the ability to express what we feel.
Baek Do Hoon discovers the truth about Joo Da Hae's past and gives her a plane ticket. When the plane flies away, he stares into the sky while he experiences a mix of complicated emotions. The emotions a man may feel when sending away the love of his life are portrayed very well by Jung Yun Ho. Baek Do Hoon's heavy footsteps at the airport express his broken heart.
In the beginning, "Yawang" was critiqued for lacking in the showing the emotions of each character. In order to find new ways to express emotions, the production crew is focusing in on feet.
Maybe it was this "open minded" experimenting that led "Yawang" to become one of the most popular dramas of this season. It is the most popular Monday-Tuesday drama as of now. It is exciting to watch what the production crew has in store next.
