Looks like good news for avid mobile gamers as Square Enix is moving its focus from console games to mobile.

It's no secret that with the "Final Fantasy XIII" trilogy, Square Enix's console efforts have fallen far below the standard the Japanese video game developer has set for itself with its classics.

The first one of the three "Final Fantasy XIII" games was considered the worst entry in the series but Square Enix tried to correct this. The company went as far as asking fans what game it should make next after being clearly inattentive about its fans' demands. The company made the game it wants to make rather than what fans wanted to play.

That said, the ace video game developer dominates the mobile gaming scene. Apparently, Square Enix knows that as well, and that's why the company is now moving its main developmental focus from console games to mobile, Geek noted.

Games for smartphones and MMO's have seen more progress for the company, which explain why Square Enix released fewer full-length console games from the previous year. Smartphone games include "Kai-ri-Sei Million Arthur," "Final Fantasy Record keeper," "School Girl Strikers," "Dragon Quest Monster Super Light," "Sengoku Ixa," and "Fantasy XIV" and "Dragon Quest X" for MMO's.

In addition, Square Enix even admitted that the console game segment in Europe and North America is getting more and more competitive are dominated by a small number of sellers i.e. oligopolists. On the other hand, there is an increase in mobile and tablet PC, thus it makes more sense to focus on mobile games, Gamer Headlines noted.

The move comes after the company found out its mobile games boosted net income by a staggering 49 percent, according to a new financial report. "Final Fantasy Record Keeper" and "School Girl Strikers" were particularly pointed out as the primary titles that helped increased Square Enix's revenue.

HOwever, Square Enix is not completely withdrawing from consoles just yet.
