On May 21, Billboard's K-Town column exclusively announced the Girls' Generation as the first artists to appear at KCON NY. The addition of Girls' Generation follows the May 14 announcement of fellow SM Entertainment artists, Super Junior, as the first artists in the KCON LA lineup.

Girls' Generation is one of the most commercially successful K-pop girl groups. Their last performance in the New York City metropolitan area was during SM TOWN in New York City. The footage from SM TOWN in New York City was later developed into a documentary.

Their appearance at KCON NY will mark the second KCON performance by Girls' Generation, who previously graced the stage of KCON 2014. In March 2015, Girls' Generation released their first single as an eight-member group. The commercially successful Japanese track, "Catch Me If You Can" attracted attention for its arrangement and unique sound.

All of the members of Girls' Generation have appeared in Korean drama in cameo roles. However, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seolhyun have performed more substantial acting roles.

Yuri starred opposite Lee Jong Suk and Seo In Guk in the 2013 sports film "No Breathing." Sooyoung has starred as the leading lady of tvN's "Dating Agency Cyrano" and portrayed Lee Bom Yi in the MBC melodrama, "My Spring Days." Seolhyun appeared in a supporting role as Han Yoo Rim in the 2013 SBS series, "Passionate Love." Yoona has starred in several K-Dramas including "Love Rain" and she is currently filming a Chinese period drama.

KCON NY will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, August 8. The event will follow KCON LA. KCON LA is a 3-day event which will be held from July 31 through August 2.

Tune into the KCON Live Chat on Thursday, May 21 at 5:30 p.m. PT/ 8:30 p.m. EST for additional artist announcements.
