Park Hae Jin's latest drama role is a man who seemingly has everything and maybe even an ulterior motive. In the upcoming drama "Cheese In The Trap," he plays the kind, handsome, wealthy, smart and stylish Yoo Jung. But despite Yoo Jung's perfect exterior-or maybe because of it-there's something a little unnerving about him.
The drama is based on the Naver webtoon "Cheese In The Trap," which is very popular in Korea, China, Thailand and Indonesia. Fans have been speculating on who might be in the cast since the drama adaptation was announced and Park Hae Jin was a frontrunner among netizens.
According to the drama's production company, Eight Works, it's a perfect choice.
"As Park Hae Jin completely matches the character of Yoo Jung, we persistently sent him love calls. We are very thankful that he made his decision. Park Hae Jin is currently preparing a lot for his role as Yoo Jung and we will work hard to make a drama with the best synergy."
"Cheese In The Trap" is the story of a female college student Hong Sul and her relationship with her fellow student Yoo Jung. He seems so perfect that she can't quite believe it and wonders whether he has ulterior motives for being so nice. Cynical Hong Sul is sure that he is hiding something and tries to figure out what his secret is. Her life has taken some unexpected turns since she started spending time with Yoo Jung. Is he making things happen in her life or is she just unable to believe her good fortune. It's a mystery she must solve.
Basing a drama on a webtoon can result in successful ratings but there's no guarantee. Webtoon-inspired dramas that were a success include the surprise hit "Misaeng" and the currently running "The Girl Who Sees Smells." Other webtoon-inspired dramas are "Flower Boys Next Door," "Hyde, Jekyll and Me," "and "Doctor Frost." Some webtoon-inspired dramas do well and others flounder. Finding the right cast is essential.
So far, Eight Works has not cast an actress to play the role of Hong Sul.
Park Hae Jin is known for his roles in "East of Eden" and "My Daughter Seo Young," as well as playing Jun Ji Hyun's long-suffering second-lead suitor in "My Love From Another Star." He played Lee Jong Suk's romantic and professional rival in "Doctor Stranger" and also appeared in the OCN series "Bad Guys."
