“Hart of Dixie” has been officially cancelled by CW after four seasons. Several reports have confirmed that the medical drama led by Rachel Bilson have gotten the axe due to low ratings.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the cancellation of "Hart of Dixie" should not come as a surprise to fans given that season 4 has been struggling in the ratings game. The website reported that the CW series only attracted 1.6 million viewers and a .6 in the 18-to-49 demographic. Some fans, however, were still surprised by the announcement given that the final episode has been advertised as merely a "season finale."
"BlueBell, you're 1 in a million! Thanks for watching the #HartofDixie season finale! #LongLiveTheHart." CW wrote in its official "Hart of Dixie" Twitter page.
It did not take long before the news about the "Hart of Dixie" season 5 cancellation spread as several cast members, including Scott Porter and Wilson Bethel took to Twitter to announce the sad news.
"That's a wrap on Wilson & #3Amigos. Love these dudes. So proud. #TearsWereShed #HartOfDixie @WilsonBethel @1loveCress," Porter tweeted. The actor also thanked the fans for following the show for 4 years.
Meanwhile, Bethel also said his goodbye to his character, Wade Kinsella.
"Thank you, Wade Kinsella, for these four wonderful years. It's been a mighty pleasure knowing you. #picturewrap #HartofDixie."
Back in April, series creator Leila Gerstein took to Twitter to start a campaign about saving "Hart of Dixie." Her tweet captured the hearts of fans which led to several posts campaigning for a season 5. Unfortunately, the tweets were not an enough motivation for CW to give the series another chance.
"'The final three episodes of #HartofDixie begin tonight. Buckle up, I think you will enjoy the ride. Xo," Gerstein tweeted.
The producer added that given the chance she would have "gone 17 years" working on the show.
