Although "Hwajung" won first place in the ratings for its second episode this week, and "Heard It From The Grapevine" followed close behind, 'Who Are You - School 2015" is slowly rising in the ranks.
"Who Are You - School 2015?' achieved 7.1 percent in the ratings for its May 26 episode, which is a 0.3 increase from previous ratings and a new record. The drama has seen a slow but significant climb in ratings, since it began at 3.8 percent. Ratings have grown almost every week.
With the other two dramas providing strong contenders, it took a while for viewers to notice "Who Are You - School 2015?" The teen drama offers a look at the sometimes subtle and at other times not so subtle ways that school bullying takes place. Kim So Hyun plays twin sisters. One twin, Go Eun Byul, was adopted and attends a private school in Gangnam. She has engaged in some bullying behavior although it never included physical abuse. The other twin Lee Eun Bi remained in the orphanage and went to a school where she was bullied both verbally and physically. When Go Eun Byul disappears, Lee Eun Bi has a chance to assume her identity, to be popular and powerful. She takes it and knows happiness for the first time.
Lee Eun Bi acquires a few allies at her new school who still protect her despite knowing her secret. Things seem to be going well until the girl who bullied her at the old school transfers to her class .
Much of the credit for the rise in ratings should go to the drama's young cast, which besides Kim So Hyun includes model-turned-actor Nam Joo Hyuk and BtoB singer-turned actor Yook Sungjae. They do a great job of portraying teens faced with a complex and confusing emotional situation.
Episode 14 of the 50-episode historical drama "Hwajung," starring Cha Seung Won, Lee Yeon Hee and Park Seo Joon, recorded 11 percent of the viewers.
The 28th episode of the 30-episode satirical drama "Heard It Through the Grapevine," starring Lee Joon, Go Ah Seung, Yoo Jun Sang and Yoo Ho Jung, achieved 9.8 percent in the ratings.
"Heard It Through The Grapevine" and "Hwajung" have alternated winning first place in the ratings.
