On May 29, "Orange Marmalade" aired an action-packed episode, which has sparked a lot of debate amongst viewers who were unfamiliar with the webtoon. Episode 4 of the vampire teen drama took several twists and incorporated numerous time jumps. There were harsh consequences for several of the main characters, particularly Baek Ma Ri (AOA's Seolhyun) and Han Shi Hoo (CNBLUE's Lee Jong Hyun). The jarring series of events leading to the conclusion of the episode were presented in a manner which left many viewers confused.

Three months into the future, Ma Ri encounters Jung Jae Min (Yeo Jin Goo) on the subway. When he sees her, he is confused but immediately has a flashback to a scene where she is dressed in a hanbok. If the preview is any indication, the fifth episode of "Orange Marmalade" will be set 200-years in the past. During this time, the friction between vampires and humans led to a treaty, which currently binds the bloodsucking population.

Please be advised that the preview for episode 5 will be followed by spoilers within this article.

The May 29 episode of "Orange Marmalade" played out with captivating viciousness, with plot twists that were like a less rated version of "Game of Thrones." Jae Min discovers that Shi Hoo is a vampire, while Shi Hoo learns that his behavior as a toddler led to the separation of his parents. The relationship between Jae Min and Shi Hoo is further complicated by the fact that the teenaged vampire is the nephew of Jae Min's stepfather. Within minutes the conflict between Jae Min and his mother is easily explained; he has disdain for vampires because his mother fell in love with one.

Jae Min confronts Shi Hoo with reckless abandon, which will obviously lead to horrible consequences. Jae Min has the most to lose, which is apparent when he has two near-death experiences.

There are several other events throughout the episode, but the outing of Ma Ri as a vampire is the most heartbreaking. She retreats from Jae Min with the knowledge that he hates vampires, but they are reunited by fate. Ma Ri and Jae Min return to the lighthouse, where they confessed their love. However, the scene plays out in a completely different manner.

Jae Min plunges into the sea and nearly drowns. He is rescued by Ma Ri but it appears as though he may have lost his memory. After what appears to be a three-month separation, they are reunited on the subway.

What are your thoughts on the direction "Orange Marmalade" has taken? Do you think the series will stray from the webtoon it is based on?
