Along with enhanced abilities and brand new weapons, the upcoming cyberpunk-themed action role-playing video game, "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" has one crucial, yet subtle change to the series: women in combat roles.

Producer Olivier Proulx told Engadget at E3 that though women were in the previous game, "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" too, they were usually removed from battles.

"They had some social functions in the game world, but actually going into stealth and playing against them in combat, you didn't see that," Proulx noted. "It was just guys all the way through."

"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" however breaks with tradition by introducing women on the front lines, unlike Women in Human Revolution who had a strictly "social" role.

"Basically, now when you explore the environments it's not only, like, males everywhere," Proulx explained.

"We have females as well, female characters that you can interact with. In a Deus Ex game, you don't have to kill everyone -- so we call them 'combatants' but we could say they're just NPCs in the environment. We have a much more -- sort of mix of different characters. For us, it was really important to have females in our world, in the Deus Ex world," Proulx added.

Publisher Square Enix revealed that the latest installation of the cyberpunk Deus Ex shooter series, "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" will be released on Xbox One, PS4 as well as PC in early 2016, according to records on IGN.

The game is set in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolution and the Aug Incident that cropped up in Panchaea. An enormous clash has emerged between people with augmentations and those without them, following the death of millions.

Keeping with the political angle, there are other parties who intend to use the confusion to further their own agenda.

The "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" was officially announced in April, after it was leaked one day earlier.
