On June 20, KBS2 aired the final episode of the hit docu-drama, "Producer." The series concluded with extended footage that aired for more than an hour and 45 minutes. Viewers tuned in en mass for the compelling conclusion. According to the June 21 report by Nielsen Korea,
"Producer" recorded 17.7 percent in nationwide viewership for its finale.
The following paragraphs will contain spoilers for the finale.
Episode 12 opened with Ra Joon Mo (Cha Tae Hyun) providing a strong defense as to why Cindy (IU) should continue to participate in filming for "2 Days, 1 Night." Cindy tearfully greeted by Baek Seung Chan (Kim Soo Hyun) and the production team, as she struggled with the reality that her career was falling apart.
He acted against the judgement of his superiors and continued to include her in the taping, alongside idols such as 2NE1's Dara (Sandara Park) and Kang Seung Yoon of WINNER, who returned for guest appearances.
Seung Chan and Joon Mo were focused on their failing show, while Tak Ye Jin (Gong Hyo Jin) received news that someone claiming to be a television producer had repeatedly called to have the neighborhood lights fixed. Having repeatedly denied romantic advances from Seung Chan, she confronts him to see if he was responsible. He denies involvement, pointing her towards Joon Mo.
In many ways, Joon Mo and Ye Jin are the heroes of the drama. Joon Mo accepted responsibility for helping Cindy, after years of remorse for his inability to save Yuna. After discovering that Yuna was a happy florist, he realized there was hope for Cindy if she was thrown away by CEO Byun. Ye Jin shows that she truly cares for the young idol and spends hours searching for old video footage, which helps to clear her name and point the blame towards her agency.
The love lines were not tidily concluded with romantic kisses or walks in the sunset. There was a realistic approach to each couple. Joon Mo confesses to Ye Jin while Seung Chan cautiously approaches the possibility of feelings for Cindy. The romantic plots within this series may have seemed contrived, at times, but "Producer" concluded with positive endings for its main characters.
