Fans can't wait to see "Scandal" season 5 this fall. Not a lot about the upcoming season of the Shonda Rhimes political thriller has been revealed, and apparently, even Joe Morton who plays Eli Pope has no idea what's in store for his character.

When asked by Deadline about what will happen to Eli Pope in "Scandal" season 5, Morton said Shonda Rhimes purportedly don't reveal the plot to them until before they have to tape it."

"I haven't the faintest idea. I mean, we don't know," Morton reportedly said. "Shonda doesn't let us know until we actually sit down at a table read. So, we really don't know. There's no kind of, 'here's what we're going to be doing next season' kind of thing."

"On the surface, it looks like given who Rowan / Eli is, to be in jail for extortion or for embezzlement seems like something that might be easy for him to get out of, but we'll see. Who knows what will come out of the mind of Shonda Rhimes."

Despite Morton being oblivious about whether Eli Pope will get out of jail on "Scandal" season 5, it may be safe to say that he will still find himself in a very complicated relationship that he has with his daughter Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington.

"Well, I think he's become more frustrated with his relationship with Olivia," Morton added. " It may be what you felt was sympathetic was that there was a real desire to have a real relationship with his daughter. Over time it's become clearly more and more adversarial. She's trying to kill me and she believes I'm trying to kill her. It's a terrible thing if the only way your child knows that you love them is if you don't kill them. I think that's kind of where it started that I think he's gotten darker and darker because he's unable to reach her in the way that he would like to."

"Scandal" season 5 premieres in September.
