Michael Douglas owned up to the mess that he created that led to the brief split from wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, but the 71-year-old actor insisted that their marriages is now better than ever.
The "Ant-Man" actor was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer which sent his life on a downward spiral. The pressure and stress surrounding the treatment led to a split with the "Zorro" actress in 2013.
In an interview with Daily Mail's Event Magazine, he said that the cancer forced him to focus on what's important in life.
"You see priorities differently. You have a much deeper appreciation of marriage, of your children - you see everything a little bit clearer, and a little brighter," he said.
Michael Douglas also generated some controversy when he gave an interview in 2013 where he said that tongue cancer can be treated through oral sex.
"What I was trying to say was that there is a sexually transmitted virus called HPC but there is a vaccination that they recommend to all kids before they become sexually active so they don't catch HPC, which is a cause of certain types of cancer - cervical cancer, tongue and throat," he explained.
"It was one of those things... and I so regretted any embarrassment that it caused Catherine and her family," the "Ant-Man" actor added.
He also touched on her marriage to Catherize Zeta-Jones as he said that before their split, he "was a mess."
"We had a little bump in the road. The problem in this business is that everything is so public," he added. "I love Catherine as much, more than I ever have. And hopefully the feeling's mutual."
"We worked things out - if both people want to work something out and make it better, you can do it. You can't do it if it's just one person."
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are about to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary on Nov. 18.
