Ryan Reynolds finally broke his silence following the controversial photo taken by wife Blake Lifely showing the "Deadpool" actor posing while carrying baby James in a precarious position.
In an interview with Matt Lauer for Today, Ryan Reynolds apologized for the mistake and asked everybody to give him some leeway because it's his first time to be a father.
"The baby's not properly secured in the vessel that I'm wearing there," he said.
"I'm a first-time dad, and that is not the first mistake I've made. I can guarantee you it won't be last. I'd never used that particular carrier before. Every other time has been perfect," he added.
The controversy started with the Instagram photo uploaded by Blake Lively on Father's Day showing the "Deadpool" star standing with the ocean behind him. She wrote, "Happy Fathers Day!!! ... @vancityreynolds Since the day our baby was born, I've felt so strongly in my heart that you were most likely the father. #ILoveYouSoMuchItsSilly."
The negative comments regarding the post were immediate, with not a few mother pointing out that "Deadpool" actor Ryan Reynolds and "Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively were unknowingly putting baby James in danger.
The Stir blog pointed that despite the good intentions of Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds carried baby James all wrong.
The blog piece explained, "James' feet are dangling out of the bottom of the carrier, and they're together. When baby's feet are pushed together in a carrier, it increases the risk of hip dysplasia, as their little hips are basically pushed out of their sockets. Instead, doctors recommend that baby carriers 'support the thigh and allow the legs to spread to keep the hip in a stable position.'"
"The other thing going wrong here is that James' head seems to be completely obscured. Babywearers always want to make sure they can see their infant's face, and keep their airways clear," it added.
