Ariana Grande's donut-licking scandal seems to have spiraled out of control and has now launched an investigation by the authorities.

According to Hollywood Life, the California police and the Riverside County public health officials are looking at the video that triggered the Ariana Grande donut scandal.

"Our dept. is working with law enforcement," Keith Jones, Deputy Director with the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health reportedly said. "We did a full investigation at Wolfee's Donuts on July 8, and we were told that it is not a common practice for Wolfee's Donuts to leave their food products out and exposed to the public. We did not issue a citation. We plan on doing a follow-up investigation in a week's time."

The owner of Wolfee Donuts, Joe Marin, demanded an apology from Ariana Grande and her boyfriend Ricky Alvarez who was with the "Break Free" singer when the incident happened.

"I want an apology," Marin said. "We are reaching out to the customers but it wasn't until the next morning when I watched the tape that I caught them licking and spitting, I call it spitting on the doughnuts."

Amid the investigation about the incident, it is not clear whether a formal complaint was filed against the singer.

Business Insider reported that Ariana Grande has issued a public apology about the donut-licking scandal and claimed that her advocacy for healthy eating has pushed her to express herself in an irresponsible way. However, the apology had more to do about her saying she hates America rather than the donut-licking incident itself.

The incident has earned Ariana Grande a handful of criticisms.

"Common sense dictates that an advocate for healthy eating would avoid a donut shop, rather than go there for the express purpose of mocking it and its clientele," Daniel D'Addario wrote in his article in Time. "But this explanation is more about providing Grande a path back to not having to speak in public than it is about making sense."
