Jordan Clarkson wants to master the mid-range game-that space between the three points line and the lane where most players don't dare to thread-in order to ensure a long career in the NBA. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers second-year point guard will work with Steve Nash anew to further work on his game.
In a piece from Sports Illustrated, the 6-5 speed guard revealed that it was a conscious effort to work on his pull-ups and jump shots at the mid-range to be more effective playmaker.
Jordan Clarkson recounted a conversation with Los Angeles Lakers assistant Thomas Scott who advised him to work on all facets of his game and minimize his weaknesses.
"[Scott] wanted me to master everything under the three-point line in terms of being able to shoot my floaters, pull-up jump shots off screens, and stuff like that. Towards the end of the year, I really saw all that stuff play in and come together," he said.
Listing his advantages against the rest of the NBA point guards, Jordan Clarkson said, "I'm quicker than a lot of guys and at the same time, I'm really athletic and able to get off the ground. When I get into those areas, most of the time I try to get into my spot and go straight up. It's an easy shot for me. Being that I play point guard, there aren't a lot of guys who are 6'5" and long at my position, so it's always an advantage."
Meanwhile, Jordan Clarkson and Los Angeles Lakers rookie D'Angelo Russell will reportedly work with Steve Nash to hone their respective games and prepare for the upcoming season.
Journalist Bill Oram tweeted, "Jordan Clarkson told me he is planning on future workouts with Steve Nash. He believes D'Angelo Russell will be included as well."
It's not the first for Jordan Clarkson to train with Steve Nash as he also worked out with the two-time MVP last season, which he credits for improving his game. After the All-Star Break, 15.6 Points on 53% shooting and 4.3 Assists.
