Song Seung Hoon is considering a possible role in the upcoming SBS historical drama "Saimdang, The Herstory." The drama will also star actress Lee Young Ae in her first drama role in more than a decade.

Song Seung Hoon's agency, Joeun Entertainment, told the Korean media outlet XSports News that the 38-year-old actor did receive the offer.

"He has not confirmed his casting but is considering it among other offers."

The drama has already attracted plenty of attention, due to the casting of Lee Young Ae who won awards for her last drama production "Dae Jang Geum" aka "Jewel in the Palace." "Dae Jang Geum" was the 10th highest-rated Korean drama of all time, with viewer ratings exceeding 50 percent in Korea. In 2014 Lee Young Ae was offered a role in the sequel to "Dae Jang Geum" but she ultimately declined the role. She has spent the last decade taking care of her family.

In "Saimdang, the Herstory," the 44-year-old actress will play two roles. She will play a university lecturer in Korean art and also Shin Saimdang, a gifted Joseon-era artist, poet and scholar. Shin Saimdang's work was so influential that she is depicted on Korea's 50,000 won bill.

When the university lecturer finds Shin Saimdang's journal, she discovers secrets about the artist's works and life. The drama will move between the past and the present, offering a portrait of Shin Saimdong's artistic genius and free spirit.

The production company Group 8 said that they planned the drama with Lee Young Ae in mind. There is no word on what role Song Seung Hoon is up for.

The actor was last seen on the small screen in the melodrama "When A Man Loves" with Shin Se Kyung. Since then he has focused on films, starring in the k-movies "Obsessed" with Lim Ji Yeon, and "Wonderful Nightmare" with Uhm Jung Hwa. He also appeared in the Chinese film "The Third Way of Love."

He has previous experience appearing in historical dramas, having played the role of Jin Hyuk in "Dr. Jin." "Saimdang: The Herstory" was supposed to start filming this past June but casting is still underway. It is scheduled for an early 2016 premiere.

Park Eun Ryung, who wrote, "Women Next Door," "Second Proposal" and "Saving Ahjumma Go Bong Sil" is writing the screenplay for "Saimdang, the Herstory."
