N'Sync and Backstreet Boys were considered as rivals during the height of the boy bands in the 1990s, but the members of the groups are teaming up to star in a post-apocalyptic zombie movie that has all the makings of a cult film in the veins of "Sharknado."
All the elements are there: campy theme, boy band members as main cast, and the team behind "Sharknado" is actually behind the film.
Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys explained to Rolling Stone magazine, "It's a zombie Western futuristic horror movie. My character is still being worked out right now, but I'm a good guy that's going to help save the day."
But who's going to appear in the zombie movie, now with the working title "Dead 7?"
For now, those who signed on are Nick Carter's fellow members of the Backstreet Boys, A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough and N'Sync's Joey Fantone.
But Nick Carter also claimed that he plans to reach out to Jordan Knight of the New Kids on the Block in keeping with the boy bands theme.
With N'Sync's most famous member, Justin Timberlake" appear in the movie?
Joey Fantone is not very optimistic. "I'm the only *NSYNC-er as of now, but you never know. Nick's vision is to bring some other people in that genre that have never really done a lot of film but that were in music in the Nineties and 2000s."
The zombie film featuring the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync is going to be backed by The Asylum, which is also responsible for the surprise SyFy hit "Sharknado."
Asylum owner David Latt said, "What [Carter] came to us with was a big idea of pop music stars in a genre setting. A lot of the platforms, distributors and companies we work with responded to that immediately and we knew we had something we should move forward with."
