One of India's largest smartphone makers, Micromax took the wraps off its new Canvas Xpress 2 budget smartphone priced at Rs. 5,999 (about $94).
Available exclusively via e-tailer Flipkart, the Canvas Xpress 2 will be sold in India through the flash sale model and the first sale is set on Aug. 4 at 2pm IST. Consumers started registering for the first flash sale starting Monday, July 27 at 6pm IST. The sale wrapped up on Aug. 3, per NDTV Gadgets.
The company stated that consumers of the new Xpress 2 smartphone will be eligible for receiving up to 500MB free 3G data on Vodafone for first two weeks.
Publicized by Micromax as India's most affordable octa-core smartphone, the new Canvas Xpress 2 boasts of a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display. For added protection, the device comes with Corning Gorilla 3. The Canvas Xpress 2 smoothly processes tasks with 1GB of RAM and is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek (MT6592M) processor.
In terms of storage, the Canvas Xpress 2 comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage and an expandable storage up to 32GB via microSD.
The back of the smartphone sports a 13 mega pixel camera within a metal ring of coextensive circles and a dual-LED flash. The front camera on the other hand is just 2 mega pixel.
Behind the back panel, the smartphone features two micro-sim card slots as well as a microSD card slot. A removable 2500mAh battery can also be found in the back, TimesofIndia noted.
Micromax claims the battery is capable of delivering up to nine hours of talk time and up to 393 hours of standby time.
The Canvas Xpress 2 runs an Android 4.4.2 KitKat and is reportedly upgradeable to Android 5.0 Lollipop. In terms of looks, the device will be available with Jet Black finish and a gold rim on the sides. In addition, Canvas Xpress 2 also features a Cirrus Logic Wolfson Stereo DAC chip that enhances speaker output.
Micromax's CMO, Shubajit Sen noted that the new Canvas Xpress 2 will cement the company's name as the market leader as far as the sub Rs. 7,500 (about $117) category is concerned.
