Taylor Swift brought the audience to tears when she sang a 2012 track inspired by a mother's love for her son who died of cancer. The audience at Glendale, Arizona, were moved when Swift performed "Ronan" for the second time ever. She had performed on this song only on one other occasion, reports People Magazine.

Swift, 25, previously performed the song at a September 2012 Stand Up to Cancer telethon.

"There's a woman here tonight named Maya Thompson," Swift announced before playing the song. "I wouldn't know half as much as I know about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research if she hadn't shared her story about her son Ronan."

Thompson had kept a blog about her son's fight with neuroblastoma. The blog was called "Rockstar Ronan." Ronan lost the battle in 2011.

Thompson's blog entries inspired Swift to write a tribute. She even credited Thompson as the co-writer of the song. The song was released as a single shortly after the telethon. All the proceeds from the sales went to benefit cancer charities, including the Ronan Thompson Foundation, People Magazine said.

During the concert, Swift also mentioned that she had a close encounter with cancer when her mother had been diagnosed with the disease. She shared the news on Tumblr becuase Taylor's mother had been attending her concerts on tour.

"I would read [the blog] every night. And in it was this account of what it was like to watch cancer take over [your] life," she said. "And since then, I've had cancer hit really close to me in my family."

Before the star began her performance, she reminded the the audience of how amazing Thompson was and she dedicated the song to her.

"Because Maya's right there, I would like you to give her a round of applause, please. I just wanted to take a moment and try to play this song," she said. "I think because Maya's here tonight - I think she deserves it."
