Maria Sharapova might have split from boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov, but she's still one of female athletes' highest earners for 2015 so that's a bit of a consolation.
In Forbes' list of "The World's Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2015," Maria Sharapova beat out rival Serena Williams for the top position.
"For all of her brilliance on the court, Williams still looks up at rival Maria Sharapova when measuring their bank accounts," it said. "Williams earned $24.6 million from prize money and endorsements between June 2014 and June 2015, while Sharapova banked $29.7 million. Sharapova is the world's highest-paid female athlete for the 11th straight year."
Forbes explained Maria Sharapova's earnings on her business ventures and endorsement deals.
"The Roland Garros win also kicked in valuable bonuses from sponsors Nike NKE -5.08% and Head. Other major Sharapova partners include Avon Products AVP -25.00% (new in 2014), Evian, Porsche and Tag Heuer," the report said.
Grigor Dimitrov has confirmed on July 24 that he has split with long-time girlfriend Maria Sharapova, who was formerly engaged to ex-Los Angeles Laker Sasha Vujajic.
"Our paths split," he said, per Us Weekly. "We experienced wonderful moments together. I wish her much happiness and success in life and in tennis."
Maria Sharapova's ex-boyfriend continued, "Now I'm concentrated entirely on the game and I'm sure the results will soon be seen. This is the summer of the new beginning of me."
Maria Sharapova has not issued any statement after her split with Grigor Dimitrov.
But an earlier interview with Financial Times, Maria Sharapova gushed about boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov, "It's nice to have someone who really understands and respects [what I do] and who knows the drill."
"There are so many little variants in an athlete's career that are not always easy to explain to the outside world. So it is nice that they are aware of it and know it," she said.
