"Pacific Rim 2," also known as "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" is heading towards more trouble. The massive mechanical machine saga may have suffered a setback.

According to Latino Review, fans who are out there looking forward to watch creatures from another dimension known as Kaiju throwing down with skyscraper tall mechs called Jaegers, may have to wait a little longer to see "Pacific Rim 2" in the theatres. Few of the industry sources have revealed that the film is postponed.

In November 2014, Cinema Blend reported that the principal photography of "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" was scheduled to start in Toronto later in 2015. That, however, has changed, as the date for the shooting is pushed all the way into 2016.

Legendary Pictures, the studio behind "Pacific Rim 2," has not responded to any comment for the delay in the production. Legendary Pictures wanted to release "Pacific Rim 2" in August 4, 2017 and now there is no official release date. At this point, the film is almost two years away. So depending on the scale of the massive production, Legendary will be looking into different territories.

In 2013, "Pacific Rim" was released worldwide. The sci-fi film made $411 million worldwide against a budget of $190 million. But it took a long time for the film to reach there, and it was not received very well by the domestic audience. According to Movie Pilot, before the release of "Pacific Rim," director Guillermo del Toro expressed his desire to turn the film into two parts. Although there was no official confirmation on it until November 2014.

"Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" is still scheduled for August 2017 release but based on the past records of the projects, release date could change. Guillermo del Toro is busy with his gothic-horror "Crimson Peak," which is going to release on October 16.
