Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt's "Sicario" performance might lead her to an Oscar.
According to Bustle.com, Emily Blunt's role in drug drama "Sicario" had an uncanny similarity to Jessica Chastain's performance in "Zero Dark Thirty." Thus, the "Devil Wears Prada" actress could be heading towards an Oscar.
Reports said that "Sicario" had been directed by "Blade Runner" director Denis Villeneuve, while Roger Deakins had been left in charge of the film's cinematography.
Emily Blunt had been roped in to play an FBI agent Kate Macer in Denis' crime thriller "Sicario." The Oscar hopeful had been recruited in an anti-drug-cartel force with Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro, Bustle.com reported.
Reports said that the critiques were astonished by Emily Blunt's Oscar worthy performance in "Sicario." Reporters highlighted that she had never even been nominated for an Academy Award in the past. However, cinematographer Roger had had over 10 Oscar nominations.
According to Sun+, Emily Blunt's "Sicario" could have been "canned before production." Reportedly, the potential investors had backed out on the idea of having a female play a leading FBI agent. Reports said that the investor had made it clear to the screenwriter and "Sons of Anarchy" actor Taylor Sheridan that featuring a female lead could hamper "Sicario's" box office earnings.
"Sicario" star Emily Blunt was shaken by the sexist remarks of the investors. In an interview she recalled that a financier had once approached the drug drama writer to replace her with a "dude." She added that the financier had proposed to "up" the movie's budget if they did so.
However, Sheridan's refusal had paid off. Emily Blunt's emboldening act in "Sicario" had successfully landed her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She had joined "Secret in Their Eyes" star Julia Roberts and "Carol" starlet Cate Blanchett, Sun+ reported.
"Sicaro" featuring Oscar hopeful Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Daniel Kaluuya, Maximiliano Henandez and Bernardo Saracinno would hit the big screens on October 2, 2015.
